"Where Words Fail, Music Speaks" - Hans Christian Anderson
Below is a brief biography detailing the different parts about me found on my website.
When I was young I fell in love with music. My mom did a lot of music games with us to teach us words and about the world and it stuck with me. I would go on to be in all of the choirs and vacation bible school choirs, and then church and college choirs that I could be in.
I also did as much musical theatre as I could. There's something so intrinsic for me about music and expression. It's sometimes so hard to get out the meaning behind words that we want to say, so I started putting everything into song. I have been acting in community theaters since I was 12, and I currently write my own musicals (both puppetry based and not), in hopes of directing one of my works some day.
In my own songwriting there is a sense of that. I explore the levels and boundaries of music in a very simple way: I take happy melodies and I add serious lyrics. It's partially how I see the world, and partly my mind accepting some of the terrible things we have to deal with (like death, loss of loved ones, loss of self), through music.
I do abstract portraits of people because there's something so beautiful about taking someone's distinct facial features, mixing them up, and putting them onto a new shape. I use stippling as a form of shading because it's a good practice of patience, and it is so beautiful.
I love acting, but sometimes I fear that ego gets in the way of all great actors, so I fell in love with puppetry. It's one thing to emote your own self, but it's such a beautiful skill when you can take an inanimate object and give it life, give it emotion, give it breath, and make it sing. I love building puppets, and working with puppets in both the songwriting and shows I do, and my theater. It truly is the part of me that expands through all of my mediums.
No matter the reason you're here, I'm glad you took the time to learn a little more about me! My general resume, and acting/puppetry resume are listed below! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
